North Cork U-21 "A" Championship Final BALLYHEA 2-21 KILWORTH 0-6 (13/10/02) Played At | Castletownroche. The North Cork U-21 Hurling Title is back in the parish for the first time since 1996 after a marvellous display at Castletownroche last Sunday. Ballyhea got off to a dream start with points from Timmy Shanahan and Conor Condon before Kilworth replied with a point from a free. With Ballyhea on top in almost every sector of the field, Jonathon O' Sullivan added another point before goalie Danny O' Donoghue struck a 90 yard free all the way to the Kilworth net. Maurice O' Sullivan had 2 points before Sean Coleman had Ballyhea's second goal with a well struck ground shot which deceived the Kilworth keeper. Kilworth pulled a point back in the 18th minute but stilled trailed 2-5 to 0-2. Ballyhea continued to dominate and added 7 points without reply before half-time. Kilworth made a brief response early in the second-half, but a fine point from the excellent Jonathon O' Sullivan in the 35th minute kept Ballyhea on track. With the defence brilliantly led by Derek "Del" Mackessey, Tim Shanahan and Liam O' Connor, Kilworth found it hard to get scores. While Maurice O' Sullivan scored 6 points in the final 20 minutes and Jonathon O' Sullivan and Brian O' Shaughnessy also scoring points, the cup was well and truly on its way to Ballyhea before the finish. After the game North Cork Board Treasurer Patsy O' Mahony presented the cup to Ballyhea's captain Conor Condon amidst great scenes of celebration. This was an excellent team performance and our Congratulations to the players and mentors on a job well done.
