Cork County Club Senior Hurling Championship 2003 Round 2 BALLYHEA 3-14 CASTLELYONS 1-18 (14/06/03) Played At | Mitchelstown. Last Saturday evening our Seniors produced an excellent second half performance at a very well prepared Mitchelstown venue to advance to a mouth-watering third round clash with Newtown. Neil Ronan had an early Ballyhea point but it was Castlelyons who were to dominate the frist period and they led 0-12 to 1-5 at the break. Ballyhea's goal came from a powerful Neil Ronan 21 yard-free after Maurice O' Sullivan was fouled. The second half though saw a different Ballyhea side. Early points from the excellent Neil Ronan (5), a well taken Maurice O' Sullivan point and Johnny O' Sullivan's ground shot which deceived the Castlelyons goalie and ended up in the back of the net saw them leading by a single point after 45 minutes. Our joy was shortlived though when Castlelyons goaled 3 minutes later to leave just a point between the sides. The next ten minutes provided thrilling fare and urged on by our great following, Ian Ronan set up John O' Riordan in the 58th minute for a well taken 3rd goal. Castlelyons, with Timmy McCarthy and Eoin Fitzgerald now spear heading their attack tried hard for the winning goal, but Ballyhea stood firm and a late Neil Ronan point sealed victory. So now it is on to Round 3 and a meeting with Newtown in two or three weeks time.
