ST. CATHERINES 1-10 BALLYHEA 1-17 (16/03/03)
Played At | Ballynoe.

Ballyhea's young side picked up the points in the opening league game of the season at the east Cork venue last Sunday. Played in ideal conditions Ballyhea started brightly with early points from a Barry Coleman free and Darran Ronan before the home side had a goal after 5 mins. Points from Darran Ronan, Maurice O' Sullivan, another Barry Coleman long range free and a point from the hard working Timmy Shanahan had the sides level after 15 mins 0-6 to 1-3. The saints added 4 more points before the break while Ballyhea replied with 3 points all coming from impressive minor Maurice O' Sullivan to leave the scores 1-7 to 0-9 in favour of the east Cork lads.
Catherines begun the second half with points in the 35th and 38th minutes. But Ballyhea hit a purple patch now inspired by the outstanding minors Owen O' Sullivan and Barry Coleman and the forceful play of Ian Ronan and Sean Curtin saw points from Tim Shanahan, Maurice O' Sullivan (4), Ian Ronan and Ian Curtin to lead 0-16 to 1-10. When Maurice O' Sullivan goaled with 8 minutes remaining there was no way back for Catherines. Ian Ronan added another point with 5 mins to go to seal a great victory.
