A keenly contested league tie at Blarney last Sunday saw the home side take the spoils. Ballyhea led 0-4 to 0-2 after 20 mins, all 4 points coming from the outstanding Maurice O' Sullivan. Blarney were reduced to 14 men after a late tackle on Maurice. But by half time the mid Cork side had gone 0-5 to 0-4 ahead.

Ballyhea had 2 early points in the second half before Blarney got in for a goal in the 33rd min. Points from Diarmuid O' Riordan and Eamon Morrissey had the sides level again after 40 mins 0-8 to 1-5. The sides were still level after 50 mins 0-11 to 1-8. Blarney pointed in the 51st min but Barry Coleman fired Ballyhea level again in the 53rd min.

Both sides strived for the winner and Blarney pointed in the 60th minute but Ballyhea were awarded a free with the final puck but unfortunately it dropped short and with it defeat was our lot in the opening game in the league campaign, but this was a still a big improvement from the Liam Breathnach cup game a few weeks ago.
