Junior "B" Football Championship
Ballyhea 3-12 Churchtown 4-6 (18/05/01)
Played At | Buttevant.
The Footballers made in 2 wins out of 2 in the Junior "B" Football Championship with this dramatic 3 point victory over neighbours Churchtown at Buttevant on Friday night. We started brightly but an early injury to Aidan Crowley was a big blow to our hopes but a brilliant solo goal by Sean Curtin in the 19th minute and another goal from his brother ian in the 27th min had us 2-5 to 1-2 ahead at half-time. Churchtown to their credit got on top in the 2nd half and had surged into a 4 point lead with 10 mins remaining (4-5 to 2-7) thanks to 3 very well worked goals. Ballyhea though never gave in, and points from Ian Ronan (51 min), Aidan O Connor (52+55 min), and
Sean Curtin (53+57 Min) had us a point ahead with 3 mins to go. Then with 2 mins remaining an excellent move involving Eamonn Crowley and Sean Curtin ended with Jonathon O Sullivan being brought down for a penalty which Sean Curtin tucked away to put us 4 points clear.
Churchtown tried hard for a goal but our defence stood firm and a late
Churchtown point saw us run out 3 point winners.
