2010 North Cork Junior "B" Hurling Championship Final Ballyhea 2-14 Newtown 3-13 Played in Charleville (18/08/10) So near but yet so far for our Junior B team as they lost out to neighbours Newtown in a thrilling North Cork Junior B Championship Final in a front of a large crowd at Charleville. Ballyhea got off to a dream start with 4 early points from John William O'Brien, Johnny O'Flaherty and Kevin Hanley (2). Newtown struck in the 7th minute for a goal but Ballyhea continued to dominate and were full value for a 1-9 to 1-3 lead after 25 minutes with the goal coming from John Morrissey after good work by Kevin Copps. Newtown though introduced former Cork minor Donagh Stack at the end of the first half and with his first touch he fired a 21 yard free to the net. Newtown added another point to leave just 2 between the sides at Half time. The second half had barely begun when Stack had his second goal to put Newtown into the lead for the first time. The rest of the game was very evenly contested as Newtown led by 4 points with 3 minutes remaining. But Ballyhea were not finished, Good work by Mick O'Mahony and Christopher Hanley set up Stephen O'Sullivan for a goal which was a followed by a point from Christopher to draw the sides level. But amidst fierce excitement Newtown sent over 2 late points to snatch the title after an enthralling contest.
