Under21 "A" Hurling Championship
Ballyhea 0-9 Kilworth 1-13 (22/08/01)
Played At | Shanballymore.
Our u-21 hurlers made their exit from the Championship last Wednesday night at the hands of Kilworth. Kilworth opened good enough and led 0-3 to 0-0 after 6 mins but by the 20 min we were on level terms 0-4 a piece, Ian Curtin scoring Ballyhea's 4 points. But by half-time Kilworth had opened up a 3 point lead 0-7 to 0-4.
The
second half was evenly contested and with 10 mins to go just 2 points
separated the sides 0-10 to 0-8, but 3 points for Kilworth and a goal in the dying seconds after Karl Metelko had brought off a fine save ensured their passage to the semi-finals. Other notable performances that deserve a mention were Paddy Moloney, Gavin Metelko and Timmy Shanahan.
This was a disappointing result for Ballyhea but with a number of key players unavailable it proved costly on the night. Kilworth now meet Fermoy in the Semi Finals of this Championship
