North Cork Under 21 "A" Hurling Championship Semi-Final

BALLYHEA 0-12 NEWTOWN 1-15 (23/07/04)
Played At | Charleville.

The U-21 hurlers lost their North Cork title when they had to give way to Newtown at the Semi-Final stage on Friday night in Charleville. The lads made a very positive start and were full value for a 0-7 to 0-3 lead after 13 minutes with points from Maurice O' Sullivan (5) and Sean Coleman (2). We were causing Newtown plenty of problems at this stage, but gradually they came back into it and struck for a vital goal to lead after 25 minutes, a lead which Newtown held to the finish. A pointed free from Maurice O' Sullivan left us 2 points behind at Half-Time 1-7 to 0-8.

Newtown continued to hold that lead through most of the second half and it seemed Ballyhea really needed a goal to get back into it. Midway through the half David O' Riordan went through on goal and went down under a challenge but despite claims for a penalty none was awarded, and from that moment Newtown began to pull away with some fine scores at the other end and finished up deserving winners by a 6 point margin.

So. in the end disappointment for the lads, but we thank them and the selectors for their efforts and with the majority of the side underage for 2005 we should be challenging again next year.
