2010 Cork County Intermediate Premier Hurling Championship Round 4

Ballyhea 1-13 Valley Rovers 3-8
Played in Mallow (23/07/10)

Ballyhea exited the intermediate championship after a nail biting contest in Mallow tonight. Both sides exchanged scores early on, with Maurice O'Sullivan notching 3 early points to help Ballyhea to 0-4 to 0-2 lead after 10 minutes. But in the space of 2 minutes Valleys grabbed 2 goals which helped them to a 6 point half time lead 2-6 to 0-6 .It could have been more but for the 11 wides the Valleys boys struck in the first half.

Ballyhea came out a different side in the second half, Neil Ronan with a pointed free was followed by a well taken Edward Rea goal, and another Neil Ronan point had us just 1 point behind after 6 minutes of the second half. Two minutes later Edward Rea had the sides level with a well taken point. Neil Ronan fired over 2 more points to put Ballyhea 2 clear. Both sides battled hard for the next crucial score, but we were dealt a cruel blow with 12 minutes remaining when Neil Ronan was carried off injured after an accidental clash with a Valleys defender. To add to our woes the inishannon lads struck for a goal and a point to leave us trailing by 2 points entering injury time. Both sides exchanged points before Ian Ronan pointed in the 3rd minute of injury time to leave the bare minimum betwen the sides. The referee added two more minutes but we could not grab the equaliser and thus exited the championship for another year.
