Ballyhea and Newcestown could not be separated after an enthralling encounter   last Sunday in glorious conditions at Coachford . As per usual when these sides meet you can be sure of a hard fought contest . It took a while to get going last Sunday although impressive debutant Tom Hanley pointed in the opening minute . The west Cork side replied with  two points before Tom Hanley had a shot for goal saved by Kieran Kelly .Pa O'Callaghan pointing the resultant 65. By the end of the first quarter we trailed 4-3 , Tom Hanley adding another fine point . Gavin Morrissey was denied  a goal  by the Newcestown keeper as they gradually edged ahead 7-3. Ballyhea finished the half well with points from Pa (free) and Liam O'Connor. Gavin was thwarted again by Kelly after been set up by John Morrissey  in the 29th minute .Trailing 0-7 to 0-5 at half time , Ballyhea  rearranged for the second half and Maurice O'Sullivan had the opening score after the break . Luke Meade and Eugene O'Leary then exchanged points . Newcestown stretched the lead to 10-7 by the 40th minute . Pa O'Callaghan and Seanie Ryan pointed respectively and Eoin Kelly pointed  a free in the 46th minute to leave 4 between the sides 12-8. The game then took a huge turn as Newcestown were reduced to 14 men and Pa O'Callaghan popped over a free . Eugene o Leary reduced the deficit to 2 when his shot was deflected over the bar by the keeper with 9 minutes remaining . Ballyhea went ahead for only the second time in the game with 5 minutes left in the clock when Pa O'Callaghan struck for brilliant goal after a great work by Gavin Morrissey . Ballyhea had a number of chances go further ahead but were narrowly wide . Luke Meade fired over the equaliser and also had a chance to win it but was narrowly wide . So it was on to extra time 1-10 to 0-13. Newcestown took control in the first period and led 0-18 to 1-12 at half time in extra time . They had extended the lead to 7 points 1-19 to 1-12 with just 5 minutes to go when sub Carthach Keane goaled although he seemed to have over carried the ball before kicking to the net . It looked all over for Ballyhea at this stage  but teenager Sean O'Kelly had other ideas . Introduced  as a sub at half time in extra time to make his senior c'ship debut . Sean finished to the net spectacularly and two minutes later was quickest to react to crash home his second goal after a great run by Pa O'Callaghan to amazingly leave just a point between the sides with 3 minutes left on the clock . Tom Hanley sent over a tremendous equaliser only for Luke Meade to reply at the other end again . With the game in injury time Ballyhea were awarded a free on our own 65 in front of the opposition dug out , but up stood captain Pa O'Callaghan to nonchalantly fire over the equaliser much to the delight of the large Ballyhea following . Ballyhea showed great character to fight back from the brink of defeat and will know improvement is needed to advance to a second round meeting with CIT. The sides will have to meet again , probably in three weeks time and write another chapter in to this ongoing saga between the two clubs .
