In front of a huge attendance at Charleville on Sunday evening our senior hurlers exited the championship going under to our neighbours Newtown . Opening exchanges were tight with the sides level at 3 points a piece after 10 minutes . Jamie Coughlan struck for a Newtown goal in the 11th minute and when Cathal Naughton  added a second ten minutes later we trailed 2-7 to 0-5. Points  from Pa O'Callaghan (3) and John Morrisey left us 7 points in arrears at half time 2-10 to 0-9. Four minutes after the break Newtown added a third goal through Tim O'Mahony and with 14 minutes remaining the 3 goals were the difference 3-14 to 0-14. Newtown were awarded a penalty with 8 minutes remaining but David O'Riordan did very well to deny Jamie Coughlans effort  .Pa added 4 further points but Newtown were comfortably through to the fourth round .
