Our seniors opened their league campaign with a trip to west Cork to face last years county premier intermediate hurling champions today. Bandon who were making a return to senior ranks after a 36 year absence were eager to making it a winning one . Bandon opened the scoring but Ballyhea's captain Pa O'Callaghan equalised to leave it 0-1 each after a dour opening ten minutes . The sides were still level at 0-3 each after 20 minutes . The home side then hit a purple patch scoring 1-4 without reply before Pa O'Callaghan pointed a free to leave it 1-7 to 0-4 at the break . Scores were still at a premium early in the second half with Bandon adding two further points before Ballyhea hit their best spell of the game with three points on the trot from Dean Copps and two frees from Pa to leave it 1-9 to 0-7 with a quarter of an hour remaining . But this was as close as it got as Bandon pointed twice to lead by 7. Maurice O'Sullivan had the the last score of the game with a fine long range effort but Bandon were full value for their win . On a plus note it was good to see Tom Hanley and Sean O'Kelly make their senior league debuts . Ballyhea's next outing is a home tie versus last years county senior hurling champions Glen Rovers.
