Ballyhea reached the County premier intermediate hurling final defeating old rivals Cloyne after another epic encounter at Pairc Ui Rinn tonight. Despite having plenty of possession we trailed by 4 points to nil after ten minutes hitting four wides in this period. Ballyhea though settled inspired by the unerring Neil Ronan who used all his experience to drag Ballyhea back into the game. Neil fired over 6 unanswered points (5 frees), and with Eugene O'Leary and Pa O'Callaghan also raising white flags, Ballyhea were now 4 clear with 5 minutes left in the opening half as our half back line and midfield were in total control But The East Cork lads struck for a goal against the run of play when Paudie O'Sullivan's delivery found his  brother Diarmuid who finished past the advancing Mikey Browne. Neil Ronan finished the half with another pointed free to leave us two clear at the break 0-9 to 1-4. Eugene O'Leary pointed in the opening minute of the second half but Cloyne hit a purple patch notching 1-2 in two minutes to go two points ahead with twenty minutes remaining. Ballyhea though never dropped their heads with a huge work rate all over the field. Pa O'Callaghan came thundering into the game firing over a fine point and winning two invaluable frees which Neil converted. With ten minutes to go the sides were level 0-14 to 2-8 . Neil hit an inspirational point from the touch line and followed with a free but Cloyne replied with two points and the sides were still deadlocked with 5 minutes remaining on the clock. Pa hit over a brilliant point to lead again and then quick thinking set up Dean Copps for a tremendous long range effort as the game drifted into injury time. Cloyne threw the kitchen sink at Ballyhea trying for a winner but the Ballyhea defence stood firm to clinch a place in the final on October 12th v Newcestown or Kanturk, setting off great scenes of delight from the huge Ballyhea support
