Ballyhea returned to the Cork senior hurling league at Togher last Sunday and came away with a share of the spoils. Played in conditions not conducive for hurling, both sides served up a cracking contest.  Ballyhea started well with the opening point coming from Maurice O'Sullivan, followed by points from Ryan Hanley and Pa O'Callaghan to lead 3 points to 1 after 15 minutes. The home side though took over in the second quarter and 1-3 in six minutes put them 4 points clear. The lead had stretched to 5 points by half time 1-7 to 0-5. Ballyhea were much improved in the second half and trailed by just two points after 44 minutes 1-10 to 0-11 ( all 6 points coming from Pa O'Callaghan ). Then Barry Coleman's long range free went all the way to the net as the Barrs defence seemed to be deceived by the presence of Gavin Morrissey.

Almost immediately Mikey Browne had to make a tremendous full length save to deny the home side a second goal. The Barrs though equalised with a pointed free in the 47th minute. Ballyhea went ahead again a minute later with another well taken Pa O'Callaghan point . Again the hosts equalised with a fine score from Glenn O'Connor. Both sides went all out for the victory in the last ten minutes. We had a number of wides before The Barrs pointed in the 59th minute but up stepped Pa to coolly slot over the equaliser and give Ballyhea a deserved draw in injury time.

This was a good start on our return to senior hurling and augurs well for the year ahead. Incidentally our last senior league game 12 years ago in 2003 was also played in Togher v St Finbarrs.
